Remember the ‘Healthy’ way with the ‘To-Go’

Portable Snacking Tips and Ideas

snacking 1

Eating is no longer an activity which is experienced only around the table with friends and family. To think about it, how many times have you eaten on the run this past week? In the car, your desk or may be even the classroom! our time is strapped and we need food that is easy to grab ‘n’ go. During this time of finding food on our way out the door, one element is easy to forget thus making sure that the choices we make are healthy.

Unfortunately, it is mostly the bad stuff that falls into the ‘fast’ and ‘easy’ categories such as  chips, candy bars, soda etc. Well, what if we took some time to make our own healthy snacks portable and easy for on – the – go eating?

I am talking about things that can fit into your hand bags or backpacks on your way to school or work. something that is very convenience; easy, fast and simple and healthy as well. Most take less than 5 minutes to prepare. You will be thankful that you have saved yourself the cash that normally goes to  vending machines or convenience stores.

Check out these suggestions for your snacks.

  • Rice cakes with peanut butter (good for getting a protein punch)
  • Low-fat cheese cubes
  • Hard boiled eggs
  • A cup of fruit yogurt
  • Lightly salted cucumber slices
  • Box of raisins or dried fruits
  • Grapes in a baggie
  • Mixed berries
  • Apples, bananas, strawberries (or any other fruits. these are naturally portable)
  • Whole-wheat crackers and low-fat cheese

The trick here is to be prepared and get creative! Get your fresh fruits and vegetables on the weekend in preparation for the week’s snacking. You may find out that you start to replace a few nonessential, calorie wasting items with your new healthy snack list.

Don’t sabotage your diet with unhealthy snack throughout the day!!
